ALFRED
RUSSELL &
OLIVINE DAUPHINAIS
HOLYOKE MASSACHUSETTS
Delina
Russell, (wife of Irish Descendant George
J. Losty of Holyoke Massachusetts seen in the adjacent photo), is the daughter of Alfred
(Roussel) Russell and Olivine Dauphinais.
Delina
is also the descendant of the St. Amand,Flageol,
& Enuille dit Lanoix Families.
Additional
families mentioned or linked on this page are:
Marcotte, Colton, Mousant, Hoar, McIntyre, Johnson,
St. Amant, Mainville, Letendresse, Lamagdalaine, Leverault, and Lancour.
Delina's
father, Alfred Russell
(seen in the adjacent
photo)was - more often
than not - announced as Freddie or Fred Russell. Alfred was born on August
16, 1858 in Canada and
at the age of 4 immigrated to the United
States from Canada with his parents, Francis
Roussel (Russell)
and Sophrenie
C. St Amand, in 1862.
Note:
After arriving in the United States, the French spelling of their name,
Roussel was written as Russelle
& Russell. Exactly when their
name was permanently adapted
as Russell is unknown. The
last known use of the
French spelling of "Roussel" is documented in the 1900
Holyoke, Massachusetts U.S. Census, listing Alfred
and
his wife Olivine
and children on the next page as "The
Roussel Family'.
Then, in 1920, their name was written as
Russelle
documented
in the
Holyoke
City U.S. Census,
which was eventually shortened to Russell.
During the summer of
1870, Alfred (Freddie) Russelle age 12
was working in
the "Woolen Mills" in Hinsdale, Massachusetts as was his
father, Francis, and five of his siblings. Reference
Eight
years later, in 1878, Alfred Russell age 20, would meet his bride to be,
Miss. Olivine
Dauphinais, in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
THE
DAUPHINAIS FAMILY
Alfred's
wife,
Miss. Olivine Dauphinais, (seen in the adjacent photo) was born in June
of 1859. She was born in Canada and immigrated to the United
States at the age of 19, with her parents Paul
Dauphinais and Louise
"Henrietta" Fregeolle
in 1878. Paul & Henrietta Dauphinais were
Canadian born French descendents.Reference
Upon arriving in
Massachusetts Olivine celebrated her 20th
birthday and soon met her husband-to-be, Mr. AlfredRussell.
Within that first year Olivine and Alfred fell in love and with the blessings of both their families,
Olivine
Dauphinais &
Alfred Russell were wed the following year on May 26, 1879.
Note:The marriage record of
Alfred & Olivine reflect the typical misspelling of names during
that era. Alfred is listed as Fred Russell instead of his
given name Alfred Roussel. Olivine
is listed as Levine Dufaney instead of her given name Olivine
Dauphinais. The names listed as the parents of Alfred &
Olivine are found in other documents verifying this is the
marriage record of Alfred Russell and Olivine Dauphinais.
